Make yourself at home at this 1920's ‘character' cottage that enjoys a superb location with beaches, cafes, restaurants and tourist attractions all within easy walking distance. Pukeko Cottage is just five minutes walk from Russell Wharf in New Zealand's beautiful Bay of Islands and is definitely not your average Backpackers!

Sitting high on the hill, Pukeko Cottage named after one of New Zealand's most endearing birds, is ideal to escape for a night or two of peace and quiet and be assured of a good night's sleep - the cottage has an absolute maximum of only 7 guests. No dormitories, just comfortable beds in well appointed bedrooms, a cosy lounge with TV, stereo, guitar, plenty to read & an amazing collection of ‘objets d'art' to examine, a real fire in the lounge for the winter months and an extensive garden to relax in.

... a couple or friends to share, or for singles who are willing to share, has its own veranda and offers great views from the window to the boats moored at Matauwhi Bay.

The 'Gold Room' has a duo-bunk (double bed below with a single above) to accommodate up to 3 people traveling together or for 2 singles who are willing to share.

A quaint, bright yellow, 1950's caravan nestles quietly in the back garden, with a double bed and a small fridge. The patio overlooks the back garden and out across the Bay.

Russell boasts amazing sunsets during the summer months! Watch the sun set across the Bay while you sit down to enjoy your evening meal. Guests enjoy gathering to exchange travel tales at the dining table, made from 90 year old Oregon pine by your host, Barry.
