Set in 1.5ha of native bush and gardens on the banks of the Waitangi River, the Morepork Riverside Lodge, a welcoming home built extensively with local timber and lots of space, offers friendly bed & breakfast accommodation. The lodge is named after the Morepork (called Ruru in Maori); it has a distinctive call and can often be heard at night and at dawn and seen along the private bush walk, where many native New Zealand birds nest.

The lodge has two rooms, the Riverview and the Waitangi. A welcome pack and complimentary bottle of wine await you. With private decks and expansive views of the river and the country side, the rooms include - Spa Bath, Separate Shower, Toilet and Vanity; King sized bed; a 2-seater sofa; refrigerator; tea & coffee making facility; and TV / DVD. Facilities also include wireless broadband, computer, fax, copier and other services.

Full breakfast is included in the tariff. Evening meals can be available on request – the hosts Paul & Barbara love to cook and join the guests over a meal and exchange stories of travel and experiences. Born-and-bred Kiwi's, they have traveled extensively throughout the Pacific and New Zealand and parts of Europe.

Enjoy a stroll along the private bush walk down to the Waitangi River to laze on the bank, read, or picnic on the BBQ while listening to the sound of the river and the native wildlife. Morepork, Tui, Kingfisher, Californian Quail, Fantail, Swallow, Lorikeet, Sparrow, Pukeko, Magpie, Waxeye and Peacock are some of the birds already sighted around Morepork Riverside. Kiwi are also said to be found in the area.

You can also explore the beautiful bay with a picnic basket that includes fruit, paninis, muffins and home made refreshments or as the hosts suggest, spend a romantic evening at the riverside or the beach at Paihia with the nicpic, a little more special night time picnic basket.
