Could not fault the home, it is exactly as stated and very nice. Unfortunately flying all the way from Australia, we had not been warned that over the Christmas and New Year period and travelling with young children and an elderly mother that we would not get a wink of sleep in this home. We were also not warned that the only 4 bars in town were four doors away with a license until 3am. Then when these places close the patrons are not moved along, they stumble to the big house on the corner to make as much noise as they can, fight, swear and continue drinking. There also was a food van that setup shop each night either in front of the house or to the direct right or left of the driveway with a generator and music pumping, encouraging even more loitering and noise. The owner, manager, police and council were all advised of the noise and lack of supervision to move these drunken patrons along. But nothing was done, even after seeing men & women urinate in the yard, sit on the fence drinking and also knock on the door at all hours. Manager came most days to remove bottles from front yard. The owner and manager were very sorry that this occurred. But I feel that other renters need to know, as I am sure this is not a one off event. Even the locals in town said we really should have been aware as this is a notorious hot spot for noise as it happens every year. In Australia once a bar has closed it is the responsibility of the publican/staff to move all patrons along safely or police are called and they are arrested for being drunk and disorderly. The food van would never be issued a licence to perform his business outside a residential home. The police were absolutely useless and even allowed a fight to carry on whilst watching the fireworks we were greeted New Year’s day to someone’s teeth and blood all over the driveway and footpath. “Happy New Year” I will never book another $750 per night home on the main street of anywhere in NZ as in my country this behaviour would never be accepted. Very Tired & Disappointed
