google earth Info
Google Earth is a pretty cool way to check out the world. It's a program which you can download for free from google, and it accesses a huge amount of info live via your internet connection. You can spin around the world, check out your favorite holiday spots, and see local photos and websites. It shows you satellite views of the planet, right down to a level of detail where you can make out things like cars, and in the case of the Bay of Islands, a hang-glider, a jetski doing a doughnut, the ferry heading over to Russell from Paihia, the islands themselves, and more.
Here at bayofislands.net
we automatically put most places that are listed with us into Google Earth. You can go direct to a particular business (accommodation
, etc) by clicking the 'Google Earth' icon on their page.
We also have maps of the area showing all the businesses, so you can for instance choose a hostel
based on where it is and then send a booking enquiry to see if they are available.
The actual link is a file which you download and then open in Google Earth, if you don't have Google Earth installed, you won't be able to see it. For the best results you should be online when you open the file (which will be something like: business-name.kml).
